Remnants of dreams
Clinging
to the insides of my eyes
and on my tongue

The air laden with moisture
A curious jay
peers inside
Under a steel-gray sky

It’s snowing in California
Mother’s Day snow
they say

In France
Voices of reason
Cheer themselves hoarse
The bigot lost
And we’ve been granted reprieve
from the horror

And, not far from here,
My granddaughter
Moves restlessly
Blind eyes dreaming
Waiting to be born.
